It's that sucky time of year when the entire country is basking in warm, sunny weather and the Pacific Northwest is still mired in grey. Yes the forecast this time of year is always 'gray' regardless of what the weather folks say. I'm sure they deliberately choose the best of the computer models simply to keep those SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) sufferers from committing suicide.
In Portland the seasons are pretty much right on target. They seem to fall within the calendar dates that announce their entrance and we get all four of them as opposed to the two I was used to in California. I have to say that I really love having 4 seasons, but I must also say that I have no fondness for the Northwest Spring. Spring in Portland sucks!
First you get a week of warm, beautiful sunshine. Then Mutha Nature laughs her hearty laugh and fills the skies with clouds so dark and gray you can't tell the difference between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm. They hang ominously over our heads day in and day out. Sometimes they drizzle a pesky little rain too light for the intermittent setting on the wipers, others it's just plain gray, overfuckingwhelmingly gray!
So until the rains stop, which as the locals say doesn't happen, "…until after the Rose Festival", or the Summer Solstice arrives, we continue to suffer our moods from blue to black and patiently wait for the sun's appearance.
Well, at least we have something to look forward to!
