PDX Pride.

Drag Queen Supreme

Finally, a chance to report on the weekend.

It was Pride weekend in PDX. We knew it would be busy but things seemed to snowball. Saturday morning we took the dog for a jaunt in Forest Park along with the neighbor’s house sitter and their two dogs. It had rained on Friday so it was still a bit muddy on the trails but the dogs loved playing in the mud puddles. Then it was off to the Dixie Mountain Range for the annual Strawberry Festival with Dave and Debra and their friends Seth and Susan. We were told they had the best shortcake in Oregon and it was pretty decadent but I still prefer my recipe which isn’t quite as sweet…or as large. Their small serving weighed more than a pound!

With all the breeder deeds done (kidding), it was time to head out for an evening with the gurls! We met Roushdi, Eran and Bill at Hobo’s for a quick dinner and then headed downtown to the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus performance. This is their ‘fun’ spring performance and I wasn’t amused. It had it’s moments but I do have to say…don’t make all those white boys dance, it’s not pretty!

Bootsie

Next it was off to the bars for a little mingling and dancing. I’m not sure why we decided to hang at Slaughters but it may have had something to do with those fucking HOT Vikings in the doorway. All that muscle and fur…pillage me now!

Viking Pride
Sunday morning I got ready to meet ‘Crash’ aka Brenda and her rockin’ mom Bev who was visiting from Wisconsin and attending her first Pride Parade. The bad part was Mark had committed to retrieving the neighbors from the airport so he would miss most of the parade. As it turned out, he ended up missing the whole thing and was even late getting to the park for the festival. Just as we were leaving he called and caught up with us for beer and burgers at the local Irish Pub.

So, it would have been the best pride yet in PDX had Mark made it downtown as planned. But instead it was the was a close second due to the fact that we now know enough people in this town that we can enjoy these things with. As I’ve always said…take your own party, even if it is your own party!

WTF?

I started this new blog not long ago. I registered with Bestgayblogs.com two days ago and figured I might get some traffic someday. After all, I’m still trying to figure this stuff out and get my pic in the sidebar and get the blogroll working and maybe some tags…all the cool shit everyone else has already figured out.

Bored at work, I thought I’d see who stopped by my blog, if anyone as yet.

WHAT THE FUCK? Where did all these URL’s come from? What are all those numbers? Click…Bestgayblogs says “you have to check out the dog in socks pic.” Ah…it’s all about the dog.

Well, it could be worse…they could have ignored me altogether. So…thanks Best Gay Blogs. You folks ROCK!

And a big thanks to everyone that stopped in to see the dog. Please, leave a comment, I’d love to check out your blog too!

A Warm Night and a Naked Ride

It was a warm night at the height of Rose Festival and we headed out to hear a friend playing inthe Spring concert of the Pacific Crest Wind Symphony. The concert was great fun and departing the concert hall into the very warm, slightly muggy night we decided to hit a couple of bars. After all, we don't get downtown on a Saturday very often. We drove by Scandals and the place was packed wall to wall. In the 10 years we've lived here we hadn't noticed Rose Festival being a big draw for the gays so we were a bit surprised.

We decided to head to Old Town and see if things were a bit slower down there. They were so we parked and stopped in at Hobo's, a slightly stuffy bar/restaurant. Some nights this place can be fun but usually, only if you take your own party. Otherwise, you have to put up with a lot of attitude from the "A" gays or at least those that think they are. I mean an "A" gay in Portland is common as a Banana Slug in Phoenix!

After one drink we decided to head back to Scandals because overly crowded is better than deserted quiet and we were out to have some fun. Scandals was hopping and folks were friendly, but getting a drink was a nightmare so we moved down the street to the Red Cap Garage/Brigg/Boxxes or "The Compound" as some call it. All those bars in one building make for a far less crowded space, and with outdoor seating available it was the perfect spot to chat up a few folks and enjoy the balmy night..but still a little too quiet for us.

So…off to the Eagle to see what the leather boys were up to this fine night. Fortunately for us it happened to be "Fetish Night" and the place was hopping! I can't think of a better way to spend the pre-Pride weekend than enjoying the splendor that "Fetish Night" can bring. Oh, the costumes, the clothes (or lack of) and best of all…the "accessories!" DAMN! Where was my camera? Bad blogger, bad! We left thinking they should extend "Fetish Night" into "Fetish Weekend" and make it a SLEEPOVER!!

Tearing ourselves away with the intention of heading home, we decided to make the trek to Old Town for one last drink. With all the "breeder bars" moving into "homo hip" Old Town we had to check the BEARometer, so to speak. Having already been to Hobo's, we decided to hit The Fox & Hounds. Usually fairly busy at this time of night we expected a crowd; but we certainly didn't expect one this large (no pun intended)…

…yes, we had walked HEADlong into "Beartown 2006", formerly "Beards & Roses". I'm not sure why they changed the name and I didn't dwell on it…not with all those furry, furry men around! That one last drink became two or three as we met up with the newly sashed Mr. Oregon Bear and…Mr. Oregon Cub…and some of the runner's up…and many past winners. Rubbing beards with these men was a pleasure and sometimes a sport!

The clock finally struck the proverbial "midnight" and we were forced to the carriage for the ride home but as we exited the bar we noticed a crowd at the corner and heard quite a stir. We wandered over to find folks cheering as at least a hundred bicyclists rode up the street..naked!

Now if this weren't a sign that we need to get out more often, then kill me now so I can be reincarnated as a bicycle seat…puhlease!

Dull Brain

I hate when I post from work! The past few days I've been so busy that I draft in the evening then post when I get some time at work. Bad idea, Betty! As if it isn't enough trying to find my voice, my inner muse, to make this page worth reading, and writing, I choose to do my final edit at work. I can barely get my work done betweeen reading other blogs interruptions from various colleagues and reports, yet I hit the 'publish' button anyway. Do I have any brain cells left? I would think not!

Truth be told, I do have brain cells left. However, I need to let them run free and that's just not going to happen at work. Therefore, I draft at work and publish in the evening. At least for now.
